Silver price (XAG/USD) hit a weekly high of nearly $33.20 during the North American trading session on Wednesday. The U.S. dollar (USD) has further lowered and demand for silver has increased as U.S. credit ratings have been eroded by high debt levels and aggravated fiscal imbalances.
The dollar index (DXY), which tracks the value of the dollar to six major currencies, fell to nearly 99.50, its lowest level in two weeks. Technically, the weak dollar makes silver a value investor. In addition, concerns about credit erosion in the United States have raised the need for safe-haven assets such as silver.
The heat map shows the percentage change of major currencies relative to other currencies. The base currency is selected from the left column, while the quote currency is selected from the top row. For example, if you select USD from the left column and move along the horizontal line to the yen, the percentage change shown in the box will represent USD (base)/JPY (quotation).
Moody's downgraded the U.S. sovereign credit rating from Aaa to Aa1 on Friday, due to concerns that debt levels are close to $36 trillion. The credit rating zeizao.cnpany also warns that debt levels may expand further, with U.S. President Trump planning to pass a new tax cut bill to achieve its economic agenda.
Republican lawmakers, however, did not support the new tax cut bill at a closed-door meeting in Congress on Tuesday, due to differences on higher deductions paid by state and local taxes, Reuters quoted Republican representative Mike Lawler as saying.
At the same time, investors are closely watching the Russian-Ukrainian ceasefire negotiations held in the Vatican. On Monday, U.S. President Trump confirmed the suspension between Moscow and Kiev via social mediaFire negotiations are about to begin, but no specific time frame is mentioned. Trump said his confidence in the negotiations is that negotiations will focus mainly on ending the war rather than a temporary ceasefire. “Russia and Ukraine will immediately begin negotiations on a ceasefire and, more importantly, end the war,” Trump said. Silver Technical Analysis
Silver price breaks through the downward triangle pattern on the daily chart, resulting in a strong upward trend. Silver's short-term trend is bullish, staying above the 20-term index moving average (EMA) and trading around $32.65.
The 14th period relative strength index (RSI) fluctuates within the range of 40.00-60.00, indicating a sideways trend. If the RSI breaks through 60.00, new bullish momentum will appear.
Looking upward, the March 28 high of $34.60 will be the key resistance level for the metal. Looking down, the April 11 low of $30.90 will be the key support zone.
