On Wednesday, the euro/dollar jumped to nearly 1.1350, continuing the upward momentum of the third trading day. The US dollar (USD) continues to face severe selling pressure due to the decline in U.S. credit ratings, with strong performance of major currency pairs. The dollar index (DXY), which tracks the value of the dollar against six major currencies, recovered some early losses, but still fell 0.3% to close to 99.70.
Moody's downgraded the U.S. sovereign credit rating from Aa1 to Aaa on Friday, due to fiscal imbalances and growing interest obligations, a move that has heightened concerns about the dollar's credibility. Credit rating agencies are also concerned about the possible increase in the current $36 trillion debt, while U.S. President Donald Trump plans to pass a new tax law of $3 trillion to $5 trillion.
At the same time, U.S. President Trump failed to convince Republican lawmakers to support his new tax bill aimed at achieving the economic agenda during a closed-door meeting in Congress on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the EUR/USD jumped to nearly 1.1350, the highest level in two weeks. The short-term outlook for the pair is bullish as it stays above the 20-day exponential moving average (EMA) of about 1.1240.
The 14th Period Relative Strength Index (RSI) fluctuates within the range of 40.00-60.00, indicating that there is hesitation among traders.
Looking upward, the April 28 high of 1.1425 will be the main resistance level for the pair. On the contrary, the psychological threshold of 1.1000 will be the key support level for the euro bulls.
